Boston Memorial Relay

We have set up a group run in downtown Punta Gorda,FL!! this saturday, April 20!

We are holding a memorial relay for the Boston Marathon Bombings. We will run for those who couldn’t finish, those that did finish, those that were injured and those that were killed. Runner and Spectators alike.

We will run a total of 26.2 miles. We have decided to have 6 teams. Four will be 5 mile Teams and Two 3 mile Teams. We will all start and finish in downtown Punta Gorda at The Foot Landing Running Shop. We will have water and fruit provided for after the run.

You can sign up to be on one of the teams, either committing to the full 5 or 3 miles, or you can just do what you think you can. This isn’t a timed race, just an opportunity to bring the running community together and stand united!

There is no cost to you!! Come be part of these 26.2 miles and pay your respects to those that lost their lives or were injured! Lets run for those that may never be able to again.

Please comment with which team you would like to be on, with your names and number of participants.

Thank you!! Any questions, please contact Alycia Wolfe at 239-699-6514

They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint

Fears

From my devotional today!

There are four types of fears: fear of loss, fear of failure, fear of rejection, and fear of the unknown. It is very likely that you are struggling with one or more of these fears. These fears can paralyze you and keep you from God’s best. Remember what 2 Timothy 1 says in that God did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.

I know I have fears! In almost all categories, but I am slowly learning to let go of fear and find some faith! 💜

Runner:  “I got a PR this weekend”

Co-worker, family member or non-running friend:   “You got a what? When? And should you see a Doctor for some antibiotics?”

Have you been here?  I have.  Are you a newer runner and have no idea what I am talking about?  I was there once too!  A PR?  Fartlek?  LOL, lets’s break it down a bit.  Check out this fun guide to some basic runner “lingo”

So what the heck is a________ anyway?

PR or PB –  PR or PB stands for Personal Record or Personal Best, it’s when you set a new personal time record for a run.  NOTE: You should totally use this whenever you run a new race or distance because well, you have an automatic PR and it sounds really impressive 😉

One foot forward….

Good morning! Welcome to Run 40:31!

I have decided to start this blog as a place to share with others, my journey through running and also finding God! Both are fairly new in my life.

Last year, matter of factly April of 2012. I was turning 30! I had a “LIST” of 30 things I wanted to do before I turned 30….. one of them was to run a 5k race! Now, keep in mind that prior to that I NEVER enjoyed running, ever. I almost always found a reason Not to run! Regardless, I decided that I wanted to accomplish this, and low and behold, I DID! (and I was hooked!)

September of 2012 I decided that since I was able to run a 5k, surely I could run a Half Marathon! LOL! Soooo, I discussed this with my super-supportive husband, and then registered for the Disney Princess Half Marathon to be held in February of 2013. Only 5 short months later.

About a month before the Disney Princess, two of my new found running buds came up with a brilliant plan….. Lets do a “practice” half marathon to see where we are at with our running. Little did I know that we would run the Naples Daily News Half Marathon! Lets just say that I was a little behind on my training. But, I finished! And vowed to improve!

I completed the Naples Race and then the Princess Race, and even beat my PR! (Personal Record for the new runners). I fell in love with running, the “runner high”, and the “Me Time” to reflect and pray and push myself!  This gave me ambition for a New Goal! Become a Half Fanatic! Yes, this is a real thing! It is a group of runners with a craze for Half Marathons!

In order to join the HF’s I had to complete at least one more half marathon within a 90 day period! So, of course, I signed up for the First Watch Sarasota Half Marathon, to be held on St Patricks Day 2013. However, this race was a Huge let down for me. I went into it with a sore calf and came out with IT Band issues! Barely finished. However, another new friend ran with me and pushed me. She taught me what it was like to have an authentic friend who didnt care about what I wore, or where I came from. She stayed by my side, fast or slow, and we finished! 13.1 very long, and quite painful, miles! Most of those miles were filled with prayer, just to get through! God was helping me, He got me across the finish line!

And after that race I made a decision. A decision to start over. One flat tire would not keep me down! I took a week off, got some new wheels (running shoes), a foam roller and some icy hot!

So this leads me to today! A fresh start. A New beginning! I am going to tackle a Half Marathon training program! Weekly “Long Runs”, Short runs, Rest Days, and Cross Training. One step at time. One foot in front of the other. God is doing amazing things in my life lately! He is showing me that I can have an awesome relationship with him and He is always there for me!
