Good morning! Welcome to Run 40:31!
I have decided to start this blog as a place to share with others, my journey through running and also finding God! Both are fairly new in my life.
Last year, matter of factly April of 2012. I was turning 30! I had a “LIST” of 30 things I wanted to do before I turned 30….. one of them was to run a 5k race! Now, keep in mind that prior to that I NEVER enjoyed running, ever. I almost always found a reason Not to run! Regardless, I decided that I wanted to accomplish this, and low and behold, I DID! (and I was hooked!)
September of 2012 I decided that since I was able to run a 5k, surely I could run a Half Marathon! LOL! Soooo, I discussed this with my super-supportive husband, and then registered for the Disney Princess Half Marathon to be held in February of 2013. Only 5 short months later.
About a month before the Disney Princess, two of my new found running buds came up with a brilliant plan….. Lets do a “practice” half marathon to see where we are at with our running. Little did I know that we would run the Naples Daily News Half Marathon! Lets just say that I was a little behind on my training. But, I finished! And vowed to improve!
I completed the Naples Race and then the Princess Race, and even beat my PR! (Personal Record for the new runners). I fell in love with running, the “runner high”, and the “Me Time” to reflect and pray and push myself! This gave me ambition for a New Goal! Become a Half Fanatic! Yes, this is a real thing! It is a group of runners with a craze for Half Marathons!
In order to join the HF’s I had to complete at least one more half marathon within a 90 day period! So, of course, I signed up for the First Watch Sarasota Half Marathon, to be held on St Patricks Day 2013. However, this race was a Huge let down for me. I went into it with a sore calf and came out with IT Band issues! Barely finished. However, another new friend ran with me and pushed me. She taught me what it was like to have an authentic friend who didnt care about what I wore, or where I came from. She stayed by my side, fast or slow, and we finished! 13.1 very long, and quite painful, miles! Most of those miles were filled with prayer, just to get through! God was helping me, He got me across the finish line!
And after that race I made a decision. A decision to start over. One flat tire would not keep me down! I took a week off, got some new wheels (running shoes), a foam roller and some icy hot!
So this leads me to today! A fresh start. A New beginning! I am going to tackle a Half Marathon training program! Weekly “Long Runs”, Short runs, Rest Days, and Cross Training. One step at time. One foot in front of the other. God is doing amazing things in my life lately! He is showing me that I can have an awesome relationship with him and He is always there for me!
